This training will prepare you to design hotels and other places of lodging in Washington, DC that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Scoping and technical requirements of the 2010 ADA Standards will be covered as they apply to guestrooms, reception areas, swimming pools, restrooms, parking, and guest lounges. The on-going barrier removal requirements of the ADA in existing lodging facilities will also be covered as well as recent ADA litigation cases brought against hotels.

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish the difference between new construction, alterations, and barrier removal requirements of the ADA
  • Apply scoping requirements of the 2010 ADA Standards to hotels and other places of lodging, including the proper number and dispersion of accessible hotel guestrooms
  • Understand the key technical requirements of the 2010 ADA Standards that apply to the design of hotel guestrooms and public-use areas
  • Recite some of the recent ADA cases and alleged complaints involving hotels and other places of lodging

Victoria Lanteigne, Senior Accessibility Consultant

Victoria Lanteigne is a Senior Accessibility Consultant with Steven Winter Associates, Inc. Victoria works in SWA’s Washington, DC office to promote accessibility initiatives through partnership building, educational training, and media and marketing outreach. With a background in civil rights, Victoria has been conducting Fair Housing training since 2009, and is certified to provide continuing education courses for real estate agents in Washington, DC and Virginia. Victoria holds a B.A. in Communications from Michigan State University and a Master of Public Policy from The George Washington University in Washington, DC.
