  • 508 Document Compliance

    • Fast and Accurate 508 Remediation of Your Online Documents

    • Braille Works is your solution for repair or remediation of your documents so you can meet WCAG and 508 compliance standards.  WCAG and Section 508 document compliance can be difficult and navigating these waters is not a job for the inexperienced.  Elements of a document such as paragraph structure, tables, charts, lists etc, need to be properly organized and tagged to provide true accessibility.  Let Braille Works handle your 508 document repair and remediation.

Recent federal initiatives are bringing Section 508 compliance to the forefront in private business and government activity.  All public-facing documents must be 508 compliant and fully accessible to screen reading software.

  • Audio - Audio Documents for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

    • We Offer Two Types of Audio Recording.

      1. Text-to-Speech (TTS) Audio: The visually impaired community has become accustomed to synthesized voice-recordings. Braille Works uses our proprietary script to create your audio document using state-of-the-art synthesized voice patterns. This is the most cost effective way to create your audio document. Final audio documents are delivered as an Audio CD, MP3, or on a flash drive.

      2. Live Reader: With live reader, we have an individual read the proprietary script, and record the actual document in our production studio. Completed audio documents can be delivered as an AudioCD, MP3, or on a flash drive.

    • Audio Scripting - Most companies simply read the document in its original form.  At Braille Works, our experience tells us that audio documents must be properly formatted and scripted to recreate the intent of the visual document.  For all audio transcriptions, we use a proprietary scripting process that assembles your documents into logical segments.  Now your customers will have audio documents that are easy to navigate and understand.

    • Foreign Language Support - Live Reader Foreign Language Support:  For Live Reader, we offer the option of recording in English and Spanish.

    • Audio Document Output Types - Virtually any document can be converted to audio. Whether your company needs a single audio document, or multiple audio documents, Braille Works is the partner you’ve been looking for.  Contact us today to get started with your project.

    • Accessible Document Remediation Services - We also provide a service for converting documents to a “screen reader friendly” format.  This process gives your customers with blindness or low vision an accessible document (Section-508 compliant) they can listen to independently using their PC. [Learn More]

    • Taking the Mystery Out of Braille - Braille Works transcribes materials in many languages including English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German. Our braille transcription process meets or exceeds the standards set forth by the Braille Authority of North America (BANA) and English Unified Braille (UEB). There are two types of commonly used braille; Grade 1 and Grade 2.

      1. Grade 1:  This is the most basic form of braille and more of an instructional level than a functional level.  Every letter is transcribed making the braille document longer.

      2. Grade 2:  This form of braille uses contractions; or combinations of letters as a single character, and takes up less space on the page.  It is the most widely accepted form of braille and is easier for experienced braille readers.

    • Submitting Documents for Braille Transcription

      • Document File Formats: Acceptable formats include MS Word®, Text documents (.rtf or .txt), PDF, Excel, PowerPoint and/or hard copies.  Files submitted electronically in MS Word® or Text format are less labor intensive and therefore less expensive to transcribe.

      • Timing:  No two jobs are alike. We work with you to develop an acceptable timeline.

      • Paper:  We use two types of braille paper.  For documents over 32 braille pages, we use 8 ½ x 11 inch paper (92 bright 90 lb. tag) with a high gloss finish.  This gives “High Def” dots and makes the braille much easier to read.  These documents are bound with a plastic GBC comb or spiral binding and can include protective plastic covers when requested.  If your document is less than 32 braille pages, we generally suggest the magazine fold format, which is embossed on super smooth 11 x 17 inch; 65 lb. white cover stock.

    • Braille Document Binding Options - Several methods of binding are available. Your Braille Works rep will review the options with you to determine the best method of binding for your projects.

      • GBC Comb Binding

      • Spiral Binding

      • Magazine Fold (Saddle Stitch)

    • Accessible Document Remediation Services - We also provide a service for converting documents to a “screen reader friendly” format.  This process gives your customers with blindness or low vision an accessible document (Section-508 compliant) they can listen to independently using their PC.  [Learn More]

  • Large Print - Custom Large Print Transcription & Printing Services

    • At Braille Works, we realize that creating Large Print documents is much more than simply increasing the font size.  Our Large Print transcription process has been tested by people with visual impairments and developed to provide the best possible structure for ease of reading.  It’s important to know that changes in format like BOLD, ITALICS and COLOR can make a document difficult to read for a person with low vision.

    • Fully Compliant Large Print Documents Require Proper Formatting of:

      • Document Layout, Pagination, Font Size, Table of Contents, Index References, Contrast/Colors, Tables and Charts, Headers and Footers, Text Emphasis, and Application of Styles

    • The Braille Works Difference - We don’t rely solely on automatic conversion software.  Our transcriptionists carefully analyze the structure of your document and every detail to create a Large Print version that is easily readable and aesthetically pleasing for visually impaired individuals.
