This 100% online program is designed to give you, a professional involved with workplace accessibility, training that is convenient and affordable as well as up-to-date and easily applied.  ADA coordinators will find this particularly applicable. From the convenience of your location and on your schedule, you can enjoy these powerful courses which feature substantial group interaction, relevant case law and real-life applications.  The courses are developed and taught by Lisa Reburn and Graham Sisson.  Lisa Reburn, Ph.D. is a Certified ADA Coordinator and educator with over 30 years of experience working with those with disabilities.  Graham Sisson, J.D. and Ph.D. candidate is an attorney with over 23 years of experience practicing law in the area of disabilities.  He has been serving as the state of Alabama’s ADA Coordinator for the Governors’ office since 1993.  All six of the courses required for completion of the certificate program can be accomplished in just six months.

ADA 510A: ROLE OF THE ADA COORDINATOR AND ADA BASICS

This course presents an overview of the strategic role and responsibilities of the ADA Coordinator.  Each of the five Titles under the ADA is presented and explored.  Case law and real-life scenarios are used throughout the course.  Weekly online discussions allow for application of concepts taught as well as for networking with peers and instructors.

ADA 510B: 2010 ADA STANDARD, SELF-EVALUATION AND TRANSITION PLAN

This course presents an overview of the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design and of the Department of Justices’ Guidance on the Standards.  Information and resources needed for conducting self-evaluations and transition plans are discussed.  Case law and real-life scenarios are used throughout the course.  Weekly online discussions allow for application of concepts taught as well as for networking with peers and instructors.

ADA 510C:  Effective Communication, Assistive Technology & Reasonable Accommodations

This course presents ideas on effective communication in a leadership role.  Assistive technology is explored along with an overview of how to produce accessible online content. The topic of reasonable accommodation is presented in a detailed and easily applied format. Case law and real-life scenarios are used throughout the course.  Weekly online discussions allow for application of concepts taught as well as for networking with peers and instructors.

ADA 520A:  Introduction to People with Disabilities

This course brings to life the reason for all the work ADA professionals do:  assisting real people.  An overview of many disability categories will be presented.  Real-life scenarios are used throughout the course and the student will have the opportunity to meet several individuals with various disabilities and hear first-hand their experiences and perspectives.  Weekly online discussions allow for application of concepts taught as well as for networking with peers and instructors.

ADA 520B:  Inclusive Environments and Universal Design

This course focuses on the application of universal design concepts in multiple environments.  Students will learn how to make any environment more inclusive and will also become familiar with various aspects of universal design for instruction. Emergency preparedness will also be a topic of interest in this course.  Weekly online discussions allow for application of concepts taught, as well as for networking with peers and instructors. 

ADA 520C:  Current Issues and Developments in the Disability Rights Movement

This course presents the most relevant and current issues around accessibility as topics for exploration and discussion.  Through the use of case law, complaints, and real-life scenarios, the focus of the course will be how to prevent discrimination, avoid mistakes and better serve individuals with disabilities.  Weekly online discussions will allow for application of concepts taught as well as for networking with peers and instructors.
