Registered Accessibility Specialist (RAS) Bulletin RAS 2014-04 Signs - Exit Doors
RAS 2014-04
Signs - Exit Doors
Effective Date: July 7, 2014
2012 TAS Reference: 216.4.1
In accordance with TAS 216.4.1, doors at exit passageways, exit discharges, and exit stairways shall be identified by signs complying with TAS 703.1, 703.2, and 703.5.
However, a RAS has no authority to require compliance with TAS 216.4.1 based on RAS Bulletin 2012-01 since a referenced standard (ICC/IBC) dictates the location of exit passageway, exit discharges, and exit stairways based on means of egress requirements.
A RAS does have the authority, however, to verify compliance with TAS 216.2, therefore, if signs are provided to identify these permanent rooms and spaces, a RAS shall verify that the signs comply with TAS 703.1, 703.2, and 703.5.
Additional information about the authority of a RAS as it relates to the referenced standards in TAS 105 is provided in RAS Bulletin 2012-01.
