Promoting Independence and Access Through Responsible Design Part 4: Ensuring Access on Public Right of Way Projects

2:00 pm - 3:30 pm EDT, June 11, 2019   |   Organized by: TransCen, Inc. and the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center

Description

Join us for our 4 part series, Promoting Independence and Access through Responsible Design. Melissa Anderson, PE, formerly a Transportation Engineer for the U.S. Access Board, will present a four-part webinar series designed to improve the understanding of why and how to provide accessible pedestrian facilities in the public right of way. The series will begin with a discussion of legal obligations, how the Standards and guidelines apply and then move through the components of pedestrian access and how to actually achieve access.

Part 4: Ensuring Access on Public Right of Way Projects – Pedestrian access sounds easy, but making it happen is a challenge. This webinar will go beyond design basics and talk about activities and institutional operations that can keep everyone moving in the right direction. It will discuss the benefits of policy review and how intentional design and inspection documentation may reduce future risks, how pre-construction meetings and understanding of and construction tolerances can reduce frustrations for both agencies and contractors.
