The Institute for Human Centered Design (IHCD) has been pleased to serve the vision of The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and VSA International to create this exhibition. Artful Innovation: Inclusive Design and Technology is part of the yearlong celebration of President Kennedy's birth and a program of the Jean Kennedy Smith Arts and Disability Program. The Kennedy Center envisioned telling a story that would:

  • Convey that technology can be equal parts art and function, that facilitate the interaction between a person and his or her environment;
  • Introduce a new sphere of possibilities in the arts created by, for, and with artists with disabilities;
  • Illustrate how innovations in technology can allow us to move beyond our perceived limits of mind and body; and
  • Invite visitors into a growing community of inventors, idea-makers, and creators.

IHCD scanned the world to identify and secure loans that exemplify those bold ideas.
