ADA and Accessible Kiosks: Navigating Accessibility in a Touch Screen World

12:30 pm - 1:00 pm CDT, June 19, 2018   |   Organized by: TransCen, Inc. and the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center

Description

Date/Time: June 19, 2018 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm

Location: Webinar

Description: In this 30 minute presentation, Tony Stephens, Director of Advocacy & Governmental Affairs at the American Council of the Blind will review accessibility concerns over the rise in recent years of touch screen displays in places of public accommodation, drawing attention to access barriers and workable solutions. Inaccessible kiosks raise multiple concerns with equal access and inclusion. These concerns are rooted in Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and in Titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Often, remedies and solutions are made through software redesigns, with sometimes hardware also being reconfigured. This draws into the conversation issues pertaining to both physical access barriers and software constraints raised by not adhering to AA Section 508  standards and the most current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0).
