Fibre Select Supplement: My Honest, Slightly Overshare-y Review

Ah, fiber. I know, not exactly the most exciting topic of conversation for a blog post. But please, hear me out. Three months ago I was standing in the aisle of my local drug store at 9pm, reading the back of a bottle of fiber supplement, and now I find myself waxing poetic at dinner parties (and I apologize to every one of my dinner party hosts, you've my condolences).
Here's what happened. I decided to try Fibre Select after my doctor, during my annual exam, decided to have words with me about my fiber intake. Turns out that bread, despite feeling like a grain, doesn't exactly count as a whole grain. Who knew? (Everyone. Yes. Everyone knew this but me.)
The Backstory Nobody Asked For
I never really worried too much about nutrition in my twenties. I ate what I felt like, and that was that, and that's probably where the problems started. As I entered my thirties, my digestion decided that it was no longer going to put up with being abused. I started to see bloating and sluggishness, the unwelcome side effects of a lazy digestive system that no one wants to talk about but everyone has to live with.
When my doctor suggested a fiber supplement, I did what any sane adult would do and went home and spent two hours reading on Reddit about the birds and the bees of the human digestive system.
Enter Fibre Select
I chose Fibre Select mainly because the reviews didn't sound like they were written by robots or my aunt's essential oils MLM group. It's a powder you mix into water or juice, and I must say, my first attempt at mixing it was a disaster. I dumped the whole packet in the glass and before I could stir it all in, it sort of looked like an alchemical accident in progress. Fibre Select Review Pro tip from someone who has seen the dark side of the fiber aisle: mix immediately and thoroughly, or get a shaker bottle. I bought a bottle specifically for mixing my fiber supplement, and I named it Gerald. Gerald and I have been through a lot.
Taste Test (The Part You Actually Care About)
Does it taste like cardboard and misery?
No! Surprisingly, it's fairly neutral (grainy, even) and while I can taste the fiber, it doesn't have that unpleasant, chalky aftertaste that some supplements do. I mix mine into my orange juice most mornings, and honestly, after the first week I stopped noticing it. It became a part of my morning routine, like putting on my deodorant or complaining about Mondays.
Did it Work?
Here's the part where I get all honest with you, because let's face it, you're not here for my thoughts on the existential dread of modern life. In about five days, I started noticing a difference. My digestion was more regular (there's no better way to say it, sorry), bloating subsided (my unwelcome companion of the last few months), and I felt generally less sluggish in the afternoons. I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or what, but apparently when your gut is happy, so is the rest of you.
By week three, I was telling my sister how much I was enjoying Fibre Select (a true feat, considering she thinks any supplement is a scam and has a master's in biology and therefore knows more about this than I ever will). She tried it, and now we are both fans. We have an entire group chat where occasionally people will send each other a random message about fiber, and our friends have learned to avoid asking either one of us about my health.
The Not-So-Great Parts
I'm not here to pretend that Fibre Select is perfect (because nothing is, and also because I don't trust companies that make me feel like they're writing my reviews from behind a trench coat) but there are a few downsides.
My body needed about four or five days of Fibre Select to adjust to the increased fiber in my diet, and I experienced some gassy turbulence those first few days. I was at home working the whole week, which was helpful in that I didn't have to go to work in an open office building and deal with that kind of thing in public. You also have to drink a lot of water with Fiber Select, which I learned the hard way, and now Gerald and I have an understanding.
Final Verdict
Would I recommend Fibre Select? Yes, definitely. It became a part of my morning routine that helped my digestion without me having to do anything crazy (like change my entire diet or become a fan of green smoothies or kale, which I most definitely do not). Just adding a small supplement to my morning made my gut feel significantly less like it was in distress. Is it a miracle worker? Of course not (and I wouldn't want it to be). I still eat vegetables sometimes, because apparently that's good for me (shocking revelation, I know). It did exactly what it was supposed to, and filled in the holes in my diet that I wasn't aware of.
And there you have it, my slightly too honest, slightly oversharing thoughts on Fibre Select. If you're like me, and you found yourself standing in the fiber supplement aisle in your local drug store reading the backs of various bottles at 9pm, maybe this will encourage you to pick one up and try it out. If you do, and you name your shaker bottle, Gerald sends his regards.
I am not a doctor. Please consult an actual medical professional before taking any supplements. Gerald is not qualified to give you health advice, despite all of the support he's given me throughout my Fibre Select journey.
