Okay, so. Get a cup of tea. Or a green smoothie if you are feeling virtuous, this one is one of those ones where I will talk more than necessary, because apparently that is now my default.

Set the scene: It is a Tuesday in March, I am in my kitchen at 7:14am staring at a little bottle full of green things that feel like they owe me money. My cat Meatball is judging me from the counter, and I am contemplating my life choices. Am I becoming a supplement person Reader, I became a supplement person.

How I ended up here

I want to be straight with you, I did not seek out Green Barley Plus, Green Barley Plus found me because my sister-in-law Denise, who forwards me approximately fourteen health-related articles per week with the subject line "thoughts??", sent me a link to this product one day. Usually I ignore Denise. (Sorry Denise. Love you.) But I was having a rough day after trying on my 2019 jeans for the first time (they fit like a sausage casing over a sausage), so I clicked on the link, and read the article, and found myself three reviews and a credit card away from making a big mistake.

Classic me, right?

What even is it

If you haven't been "Denised" already, I'm going to give you a rundown: Green Barley Plus is a capsule supplement made up of young barley grass extract, with the added help of garcinia cambogia and green tea extract to round it out (based on what I read on the package and website). Its claims are not grandiose, just to aid digestion and alleviate bloating, which may then help weight-loss efforts.

No miracle claims, which I appreciated because I have been burned by miracle claims before (once I bought a detox foot pad, we do not talk about the foot pad.)

First impressions

The bottle arrived in a small box that I opened like a raccoon with the excitement of a raccoon who has found a campsite. The capsules are green. Very green. Meatball-swatted-one-across-the-floor-and-I-lost-it-for-two-days green. When I found it under my fridge it looked exactly the same, which I chose to interpret as a sign of quality, not a sign that I need to clean under my fridge.

Taste is non-existent if you swallow it properly. I did not swallow it properly on day three and had a tiny little burst of lawn. Grass. A mown field feeling. Not unpleasant, just agricultural. Drink your water, friends.

My actual experience (The part you came here for, obviously.)

I took two a day. One with breakfast, one with dinner, for roughly two months. Let's break it down by weeks:

Week 1: Nothing. I felt like something was happening, I guess, but I think I was just more in tune with myself since 2016. I drank more water because I read all over about how I should, probably. Week 2-3: This is where I noticed things. The after-lunch bloating, the feeling that I could button up my jeans in the work meeting was less dramatic.

Green Barley Plus Reviews It might have been the barley, or maybe it was the fact that I stopped eating a bagel the size of a steering wheel every morning, but this was a nice change and I appreciated it. Week 4-6: My energy levels felt steadier. Not like I was going to run a marathon, more like I didn't face-planted my forehead into my computer at 3pm today. Good enough for me. Week 7-8: I had a slight crisis on my hands. I had on the Sausage Jeans, and they buttoned. They were not comfortable, but they buttoned, without me laying on the bed and holding my breath, and I texted Denise and asked her about it and she sent me four articles about intermittent fasting. Never change, Denise.

The things I need to be honest about

I lost some weight over the two months, a few pounds. I honestly can't tell you how much of it was the supplements versus the fact that I had to pay for them and be responsible and walk more and not eat things out of the freezer at 11pm, because supplements do this weird thing where they motivate you to be a little better just because you don't want to waste them. I'm onto you, little green capsules.

Also, I am not a doctor. I am a woman with a cat named Meatball and a blog. If you are on medication and/or have illnesses, please talk to an actual professional about anything before adding anything to your diet, especially things with green tea extract and garcinia, that are not for everybody.

And the money. It doesn't come cheap, and although I did the multi-bottle thing to bring the price down, keep that in mind. I have spent more on worse things (see foot pad), but this is still not a cheap capsule to be popping twice a day.

Would I buy it again?

Yes. Actually, I did. I am on my second round now. Not because it is a miracle, but because it slipped easily into my routine, I didn't have any side effects that made me go "well that's unpleasant" (jitters, stomach issues, I was prepared for stomach issues), and I felt a little lighter and less bloated. For me, this is a win.

But if you are expecting to take a supplement and wake up as a new person, I'm going to lovingly grab you by the shoulders and say no dear, eat a vegetable and walk around the block, and then when you feel like it, you can add the green pills as a little extra. Final verdict.

Pros: Easy to take, no aftertaste (unless you choke, which you shouldn't do), less bloating for me, feeling steadier, made me hydrate, Sausage Jeans button now. Cons: Price adds up, results are gradual, and you may lose the little green capsules under your fridge. Rating: 4 out of 5 Meatballs, he'd give it a five but he's biased because he liked the batting-it-around thing. Anyway, tell me what you think in the comments if you have tried it, and if you're Denise, I know you're reading this, I am not doing intermittent fasting. xo,

Me (still loving pizza, but in smaller portions)
