The Great Gem Grind: My Battle-Tested (and Slightly Obsessive) Guide to Getting Free Gems in Merge Mansion

Hey there, fellow board-merging addicts!

Grab a cup of coffee (or tea, no judgment here) and pull up a chair. Today, we need to have a serious, heart-to-heart chat about our favorite, mysteriously dusty, family-secret-filled estate.

Yes, I’m talking about Merge Mansion.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent way too many hours staring at Grandma Ursula’s smug face, wondering what on earth she’s hiding in that pie, and—more importantly—how to get more of those shiny, precious blue Gems without emptying your actual, real-life bank account.

We’ve all been there. You’re one merge away from getting that elusive level 11 Broom, your energy is at zero, and the game is dangling that tempting "Buy more energy for 10 Gems" button right in your face. It’s a test of mental fortitude, honestly.

Well, after months of tapping, merging, and accidentally selling things I definitely needed (RIP my first golden tree seed, you are missed), I’ve figured out a system. Here is my personal, highly unofficial, but totally tried-and-true guide to farming Gems in Merge Mansion.

1. The Piggy Bank Strategy (The Art of Self-Control)

Okay, let’s start with the absolute holy grail of free gems: The Piggy Bank.

When I first started playing, I was impatient. I’d get a Level 1 Piggy Bank, tap it immediately like a kid on sugar, and get a sad handful of coins and maybe one or two gems. Do not do this. I am begging you.

Here is the golden rule: Merge your Piggy Banks to Level 4.

Yes, it takes days. Yes, it clogs up your inventory and makes you want to scream. But trust me on this.

  • My secret recipe: Do not tap the Level 1, 2, or 3 pigs at all. Just merge them completely untouched until they reach Level 4. When you finally pop that big purple Level 4 pig, it explodes into a beautiful, sparkly fountain of high-level Gems and gold coins. It’s incredibly satisfying. Like bubble wrap, but profitable.

2. Fancy Blue Chests are Your Best Friends

You get Blue Chests by leveling up and completing certain tasks. Inside these bad boys, you’ll find those gorgeous Level 1 Gem shards.

Just like the pigs, always merge your chests to Level 2 before opening them.

Merge Mansion Free Coins Anecdote time: Last month, I was so eager to unlock a new area that I opened a Level 1 Blue Chest in a fit of impatience. I got a couple of screws and a seed. I felt betrayed. Learn from my tragedy, friends. Merge those chests. The payout for a Level 2 chest is infinitely better and much more likely to drop those juicy Gem splinters.

3. Play the Events (Even the Weird Ones)

I used to ignore the side events because I was so focused on fixing up the Conservatory (which, by the way, is the bane of my existence. Who needs that many shovels?!). But then I realized I was leaving free Gems on the table.

Whenever there’s a seasonal event, a bake-off, or some weird mystery-solving challenge, play it. Even if you don’t finish the whole event, the milestone rewards almost always include Piggy Banks, Chests, or straight-up Gems.

Plus, they’re a nice break from looking at the same old concrete mixer for three weeks straight.

4. The "Check the Store" Habit

Every day, the in-game shop refreshes. And every day, there is a free Daily Box.

Sometimes it’s energy. Sometimes it’s a seed. But occasionally, the universe smiles upon us, and it’s a free Piggy Bank or a few Gems. It takes five seconds to check. Make it part of your morning routine—brush teeth, feed the cat, check the Merge Mansion shop.

5. My Personal Golden Rule: Never, Ever Buy Items with Gems

This is more about saving than getting, but it’s just as important.

When you’re desperately trying to build a Wheelbarrow, and the shop is selling a glove for 15 Gems, resist the urge. The game thrives on our impatience. Take a deep breath, close the app, go look at a real tree, and let your generators recharge.

Save your Gems exclusively for two things:

  1. Buying extra inventory slots (because the inventory struggle is real).
  2. The occasional 5-Gem or 10-Gem energy refill when you’re on a roll and having too much fun to stop.

At the end of the day, Merge Mansion is a marathon, not a sprint. Grandma Ursula didn’t build a mysterious, possibly criminal empire in a day, and we won’t either.

Be patient, stack those piggy banks, and resist the temptation to hate-buy gems with real money. You’ve got this!

What about you guys? Do you have a secret trick I missed? Are you currently suffering through the Conservatory like I am? Let me know in the comments below—I need to know I’m not alone in my misery!

Happy merging! 🧩✨
