Chasing the Red Sparkle: My Personal Hack for Hoarding Rubies in Family Island 🏝️💎

Hey everyone! So, I have a confession to make. I am deeply, unapologetically obsessed with Family Island. Like, “ignoring my actual laundry pile to make sure Bruce and Eva have enough wooden planks” obsessed.
If you play, you already know the ultimate currency of power on this island isn’t energy. It’s those beautiful, elusive red Rubies. They are basically the diamonds of the Neanderthal world, and the game guards them like a dragon hoarding gold.
Early on, I made so many rookie mistakes with my Rubies (I once blew 30 of them to instantly finish a sunbed. A SUNBED. Did Eva thank me? No. She just immediately asked for a smoothie).
Anyway, I’ve learned a lot since those dark days. If you’re tired of staring at that "0" in the top corner, here are my personal, tried-and-true tips for scraping together Rubies without emptying your real-life bank account.
1. "Do Your Dailies" (Yes, I sound like your mom, but listen!)
Okay, I know, I know. "Do your daily quests." Groundbreaking advice, right? But seriously, guys, I used to ignore them because I was too focused on whatever massive multi-day event was happening. Big mistake. Huge.
Those little daily tasks give you a steady trickle of Rubies. It’s like finding a five-dollar bill in the pocket of your winter coat. Not life-changing, but it feels so good. My advice? Do the easy ones first. If the daily task is "chop 5 bushes," go find a bush and whack it. If it’s "make 3 ropes," just do it while you’re watching Netflix. They add up faster than you think.
2. Event Islands are Where the Magic Happens
Whenever a new event island pops up (I still think about the Viking island event, that was chef’s kiss), make it your business to get as far as you can. The reward tiers almost always include Rubies.
Here’s my personal quirk with events: I am a notorious hoarder. I will save up every single energy gift in my mailbox right up until an event starts. I literally have a post-it note on my monitor that says "DO NOT OPEN GIFTS UNTIL FRIDAY." When the event drops, I go absolutely feral. I bank my energy, use my blueberries, and push through that event map as far as humanly possible. I once stayed up till 2 AM just to cross the finish line on an event to get a 15-Ruby payout. Was it smart? No. Did I regret it at my 8 AM meeting? Also no. Worth it.
3. Don't Sleep on the Achievements Tab
Click that little trophy icon at the bottom of your screen. Do it right now. (Okay, finish reading this first, but then do it).
The Achievements tab is basically a treasure map. Look at what you’re close to finishing! Sometimes you’re literally one frog away from an achievement that drops 5 Rubies. I make it a habit to check this every few days. If I see I only need to harvest two more patches of wheat to level up a farming achievement, you better believe I’m planting wheat immediately. Who cares if I have 800 wheat in storage already? It’s about the Rubies.
4. The Mystery Box Ritual
Okay, the free mystery boxes that wash up on shore? I have a whole ritual. I clear the area around it, I close my eyes, I do a little drumroll on my phone case, and I pray to the island gods.
Usually, I get a rope. Or a stone axe. Cool, thanks, game. But sometimes... SOMETIMES... it’s a Ruby. Or even three! The free boxes refresh every few hours (I think it's 8 hours for the first one, but don't quote me, I'm a blogger not a mathematician). Click them every single time they are available. It’s pure RNG (random number generation), but you can't win if you don't play.
5. The Merchant Ship Gamble
Sending off the merchant ship can sometimes yield Rubies, but you have to be careful here. The ship will ask for random goods, and sometimes the trade is terrible.
Pro-tip from a former victim: DO NOT send your ship off with your rare event items or your hard-earned tools just for a chance at Rubies. I learned this the hard way when I traded away all my flint for a single hammer. I'm still bitter. Only send the ship if it's asking for easy-to-replace stuff like berries, roots, or basic crops. If the trade looks sketchy, send the ship away empty and wait for it to come back with a better deal. Patience is key!
6. My Ultimate, Hardcore, No-Exceptions Rule
Here is the most important thing I will tell you: DO NOT SPEND RUBIES TO SPEED UP TIME.
I don't care if the pie is taking 4 hours and you really, really want it now. Wait it out. I don't care if you're one click away from finishing a quest and the timer says 2 minutes left. Go get a glass of water. Pet your actual, real-life dog. Stare at a wall. Do not spend that Ruby!
The ONLY things I spend my hard-earned Rubies on are:
- Expanding territory when I am completely, utterly stuck and need a specific resource on the other side of a fog bank.
- Buying the 1st or 2nd permanent multiplier for energy-producing items (like the Sunken Ship or the Totem), because those pay for themselves eventually.
- Occasionally, if I am this close to finishing a massive event and I'm one tool short, I might cave. But only at the very end!
So there you have it! My slightly unhinged but highly effective strategy for hoarding Rubies in Family Island. It takes patience, a little bit of grinding, and a lot of self-control when it comes to those shiny "finish now" buttons.
How do you guys get your Rubies? Any secrets I’m missing? Let me know in the comments below so I can go try them immediately instead of doing my actual work.
Until next time, keep your energy bars full and your campfires burning! 🔥🏝️
