- Special tasks or mini-games
Some events are more generous than others, but I try to at least push far enough to grab the Gem milestones.
My personal style is: I don’t always fully grind every event to the absolute end because, you know, I enjoy having a life and occasionally touching grass. But I do aim for the big Gem rewards and any easy missions.
Also, auto-duel is my best friend here. If an event lets me duel basic NPCs, I’ll throw together a decent auto-duel deck and let it do its thing while I’m making coffee or pretending to be productive.
3. Leveling Characters Is Sneakily One of the Best Ways
This one is huge, especially if you still have characters sitting at low levels.
A lot of Duel Links characters give Gems as level-up rewards. Not every level, of course, but enough that leveling characters can become a really nice Gem source.
My personal approach:
- I level characters I haven’t touched yet
- I use auto-duel for Standard Duelists
- I use EXP boost campaigns when they’re active
- I rotate through different worlds so I don’t get bored
I have absolutely chosen characters to level just because I saw Gems coming up soon. No shame. Sometimes I’m not leveling Joey because I’m emotionally invested. Sometimes Joey is just a walking Gem coupon.

4. Stage Missions Are Worth Doing, Even If They’re Annoying
Stage missions are one of those things I ignore for way too long and then suddenly realize, “Wait, there are Gems sitting here.”
Each Duel World has stage missions, and completing them can reward Gems or unlock more content that eventually leads to more rewards.
Some missions are simple. Some are weirdly specific. You’ll get stuff like:
- Win with a certain character
- Summon a type of monster
- Use a Spell/Trap a certain number of times
- Defeat a specific Legendary Duelist
Sometimes I’ll build a silly deck just to clear one mission. I once made a deck entirely around summoning something specific and lost multiple duels in a row to NPCs because the deck was held together with tape and hope.
But hey, mission cleared. Worth it.
5. Duel School and Quizzes Are Easy Gems
If you haven’t done your Duel School stuff, go do it. Seriously.
Duel Quizzes and Loaner Deck Duels often give Gems, and they’re usually pretty quick. Some of the quizzes are simple, while others make me sit there like I’m solving a criminal investigation.
There have definitely been moments where I stared at the board and said out loud, “I know there is lethal here, but my brain has activated Defense Position.”
Still, the rewards are worth it. Plus, you sometimes learn weird card interactions, which is actually pretty useful.
6. PvP Gives Gems Too, Even If You’re Not a Ranked Warrior
I know PvP can be intimidating. Some days Ranked feels like everyone else has a galaxy-brain combo deck and I’m over here Normal Summoning with confidence.
But PvP can give Gems through:
- Ranked Duel rewards
- Cumulative victory rewards
- Event PvP campaigns
- KC Cup-style rewards
- Daily PvP-related missions
You don’t always need to hit King of Games to benefit. Just playing and getting some wins can help.
My personal tip? I try to have one “comfort deck” for PvP. Not always the absolute best meta deck, but something I know well enough that I don’t misplay every other turn.
Because nothing hurts like realizing you had game… right after you clicked End Turn.
I’ve done that. More than once. We don’t talk about it.
7. Watch for Special Campaigns
Duel Links gives out Gems during special campaigns pretty often. Anniversaries, new world releases, major updates, celebration events — all that good stuff.
Sometimes you log in and the game just casually hands you Gems, tickets, sleeves, mats, and a pat on the head. Beautiful.
This is why I try to log in even when I’m not actively playing much. I might not duel that day, but I’ll still collect login rewards. Future me deserves those Gems.
8. Don’t Sleep on Lifetime Missions
Lifetime missions are easy to forget because they’re just kind of sitting there in the background, quietly judging us.
But they can reward Gems for long-term accomplishments, like:
- Summoning certain numbers of monsters
- Winning duels
- Using specific mechanics
- Unlocking characters
- Progressing through worlds
Every now and then I check them and find a reward I forgot to claim. It feels like finding money in an old jacket pocket, except the jacket is full of card games and emotional damage.
9. Auto-Duel Is My Lazy Gem Assistant
I love auto-duel. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Does it sometimes make plays so strange I question whether the AI is trying to teach me patience? Yes.
But it’s still incredibly useful for farming EXP, clearing NPCs, and progressing through missions.
I usually keep a simple auto-duel deck with straightforward cards. The AI tends to do better when the deck doesn’t require a 14-step combo and a legal degree to operate.
My auto-duel rule is simple:
If the deck needs “big brain” decisions, the AI will find a way to embarrass me.
So I give it easy beaters, simple removal, and cards that don’t require much finesse.
10. I Save Gems Before Opening BOXes
Okay, this is less about earning Gems and more about not destroying your Gem stash like I used to.
When I first started, I opened packs from every shiny BOX that looked cool. A dragon here, a waifu card there, one random archetype I didn’t even understand — chaos.
Now I try to save Gems until I know what I’m building.
Before spending, I ask myself:
- What deck am I trying to make?
- Which BOX has the key cards?
- Do I need one copy, two copies, or three?
- Is there a Structure Deck or ticket alternative?
- Is this deck actually playable, or am I just emotionally attached to the artwork?
That last one gets me a lot.
I once spent way too many Gems chasing cards for a deck because I thought the monsters looked cool. Did I win much with it? No. Did I enjoy dramatically summoning them anyway? Also yes.
No regrets. Well… maybe a few.
11. I Reset BOXes Carefully
BOX resetting can either be genius or deeply painful.
If I pull the main card I need early, I’ll consider resetting the BOX so I can chase another copy. But I don’t reset randomly anymore.
My general rule:
- If I got the UR/SR I needed early, reset may be worth it
- If I still need multiple cards from the BOX, I usually keep going
- If I’m only chasing one card, I prepare emotionally
There is no feeling quite like having 3 packs left in a BOX and the card you need is still hiding in there, laughing.
Duel Links teaches patience. And occasionally suffering.
12. Dream Tickets Help Me Save Gems
Whenever we get Dream Tickets, I treat them like sacred artifacts.
A good Dream Ticket can save you thousands of Gems if you use it on the right card. I try not to spend them immediately just because I’m excited.
My personal Dream Ticket process is:
- Let the ticket sit for a bit
- Think about decks I actually play
- Check what cards are hard to get
- Avoid using it on something from a BOX I’m already digging through
- Spend it only when I’m sure
Have I still panic-used tickets before they expired? Yes. I am human. But I’m better now.
Mostly.
13. I Don’t Chase Every New Deck
This might be the biggest tip of all.
Duel Links moves fast. New BOX drops, new skills appear, new decks get popular, and suddenly everyone is yelling about the next big thing.
If I chased every meta deck, I’d be Gem-broke forever.
So I try to pick a lane:
- One or two competitive decks
- A couple of fun decks
- Staples that fit many decks
- Cards for archetypes I genuinely enjoy
This keeps me from spending Gems on decks I’ll play twice and abandon.
I’ve learned that a deck being “top tier” doesn’t always mean I’ll enjoy it. Sometimes I’d rather play something slightly less powerful but way more fun.
Because at the end of the day, if I’m not having fun, why am I here? To watch my opponent combo for six minutes? Okay, sometimes apparently yes.
14. I Avoid “Free Gem Generator” Scams Like the Plague
Please, my fellow duelists, do not trust websites or videos promising unlimited Gems.
They are almost always scams. They may try to steal your account, make you fill out endless surveys, or get you banned. If someone says they found a secret hack for infinite Gems, I immediately activate my Trap Card: Common Sense.
The only safe ways to get Gems are through the actual game or official promotions.
Your account is worth protecting. Don’t trade it for some sketchy website with ten pop-ups and a fake progress bar.
My Personal Gem Routine
If I had to summarize what I actually do, it would look like this:
- Log in and collect everything
- Check daily/event missions
- Watch for easy Gem tasks
- Auto-duel NPCs when I’m multitasking
- Push event rewards as far as I reasonably can
- Level low-level characters
- Do Duel School quizzes when I remember
- Play some PvP for rewards
- Save Gems for specific decks
- Spend carefully and avoid impulse pulls
Simple? Yes.
Glamorous? Not really.
Effective? Absolutely.
Getting Gems in Duel Links is mostly about consistency. You don’t always get huge piles at once, but if you log in, do events, level characters, clear missions, and spend wisely, your stash will grow.
And then you’ll spend it all on packs and begin the cycle again.
Such is the way of the duelist.
My biggest advice is to enjoy the process. Build decks you actually like. Don’t stress too much about having every card. Celebrate the lucky pulls. Laugh at the terrible ones. And never underestimate the joy of opening a pack and seeing that rainbow glow.
