Clarification on unobstructed side reach limits for interior kiosks

General Comment or Question

Hi everyone,

I'm currently reviewing the layout for a set of new interactive information kiosks inside a commercial lobby renovation, and I've run into a bit of a debate regarding the unobstructed side reach compliance.

According to the general guidelines, the maximum high side reach should be 48 inches and the low side reach should be at least 15 inches above the finish floor. However, the current casing design for the hardware screen has a very slight architectural decorative lip at the bottom edge. It doesn't block the screen itself, but it technically protrudes outward by about half an inch right below the operable parts. build now gg

Does an absolute minimal protrusion like this officially classify the reach as "obstructed," or can it still be treated as an unobstructed side reach since it doesn't physically impede a wheelchair user's parallel approach to the screen interface?

I want to ensure we are completely compliant before these units go into fabrication. Would love to hear from anyone who has gone through a similar facility inspection or plan review. Thanks!
