Location: Russell Building Special Collections Libraries (UGA campus) Athens, GA.

Description: The symposium will focus on the history of disability in Georgia and highlight the recently established Georgia Disability History Archive. Topics to include disability rights and justice, de-institutionalization, the power and impact of the Olmstead decision, citizen advocacy and self-advocacy, and what the future holds, 25 years after the passage of the ADA.

Exhibit: Throughout the day

The exhibit features documents, photographs and memorabilia from the Georgia Disability History Archive, which seeks to document and preserve all aspects of disability history in Georgia to create an accurate record of the historical, social, cultural, political and legal changes affecting the disability community over time.

ADA Legacy Tour Bus: Throughout the day

Driven over 23,000 miles by photographer Tom Olin, the 37-foot ADA Legacy Tour bus, emblazoned with the slogan “Road to Freedom,” will be on hand to commemorate the ADA’s 25th anniversary. A group photo with the bus is planned immediately following the symposium.
