Description: Back by popular demand, the "ADA Live!" Show: Back to School—What Parents Need to Know Before the School Year Begins is being rebroadcast by the Southeast ADA Center. This session of ADA Live! will explore what parents need to know to help their child’s school year get off to a good start. Topics include establishing a good relationship with your child’s teachers and staff; helping a child who is very anxious about going back to school; who decides when an IEP should be scheduled; how to prepare for the IEP or 504 meeting; ideas for following up after the IEP/504 meeting; and what students with disabilities going on to college or vocational training need to know.

Join Georgia Fruechtenicht as she answers some of the most common questions from parents about how to collaborate with teachers and staff to make the school year successful for their child.

Georgia Fruechtenicht

Georgia Fruechtenicht is a Curriculum and Learning Specialist, Trainer, and Navigator Team Leader for Parent to Parent of Georgia, which is a non-profit that supports families impacted by disabilities and special healthcare needs. In her community, she organizes community events and support groups for families impacted by disabilities. Georgia is passionate about supporting families. She is dedicated to educating, motivating, and empowering parents to build effective partnerships with educators and other service providers. She also provides education and support to professionals to support their inclusion efforts. Georgia is the Project Coordinator for the Parent Detailer Project, which is part of the Autism Plan for Georgia and has the goal of increasing developmental screening and diagnosis by educating healthcare and childcare professionals about the importance of early intervention.

Georgia graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina and the University of Mississippi School of Law in Oxford, Mississippi. She lives in Newnan, Georgia, with her husband, Gary, and their two children, Augie (12) and Virginia (10).
