Description: Accessing Higher Ground focuses on the implementation and benefits of: 

  • Accessible media, Universal Design and Assistive Technology in the university, business and public setting;

  • Legal and policy issues, including ADA and 508 compliance;

  • The creation of accessible media and information resources, including Web pages and library resources.

For institutions of Higher Education:

  • there is a strong focus on campus accommodation, Universal Design and curriculum accessibility.

For businesses and other audiences: 

  • there are numerous sessions on best practices for web design, reaching untapped audiences through accessible design, and compliance with existing and anticipated Section 508 and ADA stipulations.

Who Should Attend

This conference is intended for: 

  • individuals who need to design or provide accessible Web, media, information resources and technology in the academic and business environment;

  • faculty and administrators interested in ADA & Section 508 compliance;

  • faculty and other professional interested in incorporating Universal Design content or UDL into curriculum;

  • faculty and other professionals who wish to ensure that their curriculum is accessible.

Michael Schuman

Michael Schuman is a foreign correspondent who has written about Asia and the global economy for a wide range of major publications, including TIME magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and Forbes magazine. He is also a contributing columnist for Bloomberg View and frequently writes commentaries for Businessweek magazine. Mr. Schuman is the author of two critically acclaimed books, Confucius and the World he Created (2015) and The Miracle: The Epic Story of Asia’s Quest for Wealth (2009). He has a Master degree from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University and a Bachelor from University of Pennsylvania.
