Description: Join us as representatives from Chicago Cultural Accessibility Consortium (CCAC) discuss efforts to ensure that patrons with disabilities have the opportunity to access the rich and diverse cultural programs and arts available in the Chicago area. Speakers will address how cultural organizations can best include and welcome all visitors, including visitors who are blind or have low vision, visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing, visitors with mobility disabilities, visitors with cognitive disabilities, and visitors with sensory differences.

Christena Gunther

Founder and Co-Chair; Chicago Cultural Accessibility Consortium

Christena Gunther founded Chicago Cultural Accessibility Consortium (CCAC) when she moved to Chicago in 2012, and presently is Director of Education at the Evanston Art Center. Christena serves President of CCAC's board and Co-Chair of CCAC's Steering Committee. Previously, she was involved in accessibility for visitors with disabilities at the Metropolitan Museum and Lincoln Center, and was a member of New York's Museum Access Consortium (MAC) steering committee. Cultural accessibility became a passion of Christena's at young age as she visited art museums with her brother who has Down syndrome. CCAC has been the recipient of the Kennedy Center's Excellence in Emerging Leaders Award in 2015, and the Raymond R. Snyder Commitment to the Arts Award from Lifeline Theatre in 2016.

Jason Harrington

Education Outreach Manager; Chicago Shakespeare Theater

Jason Harrington is the Education Outreach Manager at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, where he manages the student matinee series along with other programs, serving about 40,000 students annually. He also manages CST's Access programming for patrons with disabilities, and provides audio description for patrons who are blind or have low vision. Jason served on the steering committee of the Chicago Cultural Accessibility Consortium, which strives to empower cultural spaces to be accessible to all. He is also a board member of Up and Coming Theatre in Arlington Heights, where he directs musical theater productions. Before CST, Jason studied Theater at the University of Rhode Island, and was a classroom teacher for seven years, working with students of all ages in theater and reading.

Lynn Walsh

ADAC, Manager Acessibility and Inclusion; John G. Shedd Aquarium

Lynn Walsh is the Accessibility and Inclusion Manager at Shedd Aquarium and is a founding co-chair for Chicago Cultural Accessibility Consortium. With almost 30 years of museum experience, Lynn has worked for the Museum of Science and Industry, Betty Brinn Children’s Museum and Chicago Children’s Museum where she was a founding member of the award-winning access and inclusion initiative. Lynn has authored publications featured in Curator: The Museum Journal and The International Journal of the Inclusive Museum.
