DESCRIPTION:WIHI broadcast — Disability Competent Care\nJune 11\, 2015\,
2:00 PM ET: Disability Competent Care\nClick Here to Register!\n\nA lot of
progress has been made the past several decades for people with disabilit
ies. But\, there are still barriers and biases that prevent disabled indiv
iduals from leading full lives and fully accessing health care. For those
with physical disabilities\, once you get beyond basic accommodations such
as parking spots\, ramps\, and wide corridors\, myriad processes at hospi
tals and office practices don’t always factor in how someone\, say confi
ned to a wheelchair\, may need to navigate much of it differently — with
more time allotted to see a provider\, access to multiple providers in on
e visit as opposed to multiple appointments\, and greater attention to the
special burden of waits and delays.\nThe good news is that these sorts of
issues are now being more regularly identified and targeted for improveme
nt. We’re going to find out what this entails\, and who’s helping to r
aise the bar on best practices in health care for people with physical dis
abilities especially\, on the June 11\, 2015\, WIHI: Disability Competent
 Care.\n\nDisability community advocates\, health systems\, health plans\,
consultants\, and government agencies have been looking hard at what const
itutes disability competent care. We're fortunate to have some of the key
players in these efforts who’ve been part of a learning community with I
HI as our guests on the June 11 WIHI. Rebecca Bills\, Regina Estela\, Rach
ael Stacom\, and Gilbert Salinas will tell us about changes they’re work
ing on at Medica in Minnesota\, Independence Care System in New York City\
, and at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Los Angeles.
We are also pleased to welcome Christopher Duff\, who has a long and deep
track record of helping move organizations towards disability-competent ca
re. Chris will also alert you to some terrific online resources and tools
that can assist your work.  \n\nThis next WIHI promises to be an importa
nt and valuable program. Please join us on June 11!\n\n \n
