DESCRIPTION:\nThe Universal Trail Assessment Process (UTAP) and the High Ef
ficiency Trail Assessment Process (HETAP) are inventory processes that sys
tematically gather objective “trail access information” (TAI) about tr
 ail conditions (e.g. grade\, cross slope\, tread width\, surfaces\, man-ma
de and natural features).\n\nTAI\, when added to trailhead signage and par
k websites\, has the added benefit of informing trail users (e.g. hikers\,
bikers\, equestrians) of prevailing trail conditions\, so that they can b
etter decide if a particular trail meets their level of ability and their
desired trail experience.\n\nThis one-day workshop combines classroom and
practical hands-on trail assessment experience in both the UTAP and HETAP
methods to ensure that participants have the skills and confidence to cond
uct comprehensive assessments on a variety of trails in their parks. The c
ourse will conclude with a written UTAP/HETAP Certification Exam which is
the first step towards certification as a Trail Assessment Coordinator. \
