DESCRIPTION:Date/Time: January 11\, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.\n\nLoc
ation: 707 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 2100\, Los Angeles\, CA 90017\n\nDescri
ption: For someone who has a disability or is elderly\, ascending or desc
ending across levels is a key mobility challenge. We often address this by
providing an element such as a ramp or elevator that takes people from on
e level to another but often these features alone do not solve the problem
. We will look at options such as sloped walkways\, curb ramps\, pedestria
n ramps\, elevators\, and lifts. We will also examine the parameters and r
equirements for each of these elements\, as well as how to design and situ
ate them for optimum access.\n\nSince the world is not flat\, most buildin
gs and facilities have some height change which can provide a challenge fo
r access — we will review the different methods of access and the parame
ters for each.\n\nLearning Units: 5 Hours Continuing Education\n\nLearnin
g Objectives\n\n\n	\n	Understand parameters for level surface and zero cur
b or blended transitions\n	\n	\n	Review the scoping requirements for verti
cal access in terms of dispersion and location\n	\n	\n	Learn the technical
requirements for each method of vertical access\n	\n	\n	Overview when ver
tical access is not required and what needs to be provided instead.\n	\n\n
\nAbout Stepping Thru Accessbility\n\nStepping Thru Accessibility was fou
nded in 2009 in response to the need for information on Access in the buil
 t environment. STA assists building owners\, property managers\, tenants\,
attorneys\, administrative authorities\, and architects navigate their wa
y thru accessibility concerns\, both for the Americans with Disabilities A
ct (ADA) as well as other federal Access regulations and California state
codes. Navigating the intricacies of these regulations and codes is our sp
ecialty. STA surveys existing facilities and provides detailed reports of
items in non-compliance with today’s Access standards. Construction draw
ings for new buildings and alterations can be evaluated to verify if acces
sibility requirements are adequately addressed. And topical seminars for a
rchitects\, facilities and property managers\, interior designers\, landsc
ape\, civil engineers\, &amp\; others involved in the built environment ar
 e offered.\n
