Importantly\, this myopic focus on counselor identity has redu ced the impact and scholarship of rehabilitation counseling to the point o f irrelevance. In an effort to rehabilitate the profession\, the focus of rehabilitation counseling needs to expand beyond counselor identity and st art to address substantive issues that have broad impact\, produce meaning ful change\, and improve the lives of people with disabilities.
