M – 9:30AM\n\n“Beyond Counselor Identity: Driving Meaningful Change th
rough Professorial Advocacy and Engagement”\n\nThe issue of professional
counselor identity has consumed rehabilitation counselors for over 30 yea
rs\, resulting in the neglect of other critical issues (i.e. poverty\, hea
lth care\, labor market participation) negatively impacting people with di
sabilities. Importantly\, this myopic focus on counselor identity has redu
ced the impact and scholarship of rehabilitation counseling to the point o
f irrelevance. In an effort to rehabilitate the profession\, the focus of
rehabilitation counseling needs to expand beyond counselor identity and st
art to address substantive issues that have broad impact\, produce meaning
ful change\, and improve the lives of people with disabilities. Rehabilita
tion Counselor Educators who have the capacity to drive change through adv
ocacy and engagement must catalyze this change.\n\nConference Registration
