DESCRIPTION:Join Marx|Okubo's San Francisco office for a lunch time disabil
ity access seminar and receive one AIA and California Architects Board con
tinuing education credit. Lunch will be provided. Please let us know if yo
 u have dietary restrictions.\n\nCourse Description\n\nWhat is wrong with t
his statement? "The handicap units in this new private apartment building
are not ADA compliant because there are no grab bars installed inside the
bathrooms."\n\nThrough focused discussions on the current applicable disab
ility access design and construction standards for new construction of pri
vately owned/operated multifamily residential projects in California\, thi
s course will tackle the question above and will provide step-by-step guid
ance on research and application of the standards. We will discuss the saf
e harbors recognized by Federal Fair Housing Amendments Act (FFHA)\, recom
mendations on selecting a safe harbor for your project(s)\, contents and o
rganization of the applicable standards (including California Building Cod
e\, CBC\, Chapter 11A)\, and how they are organized. A few specific exampl
es will be used to demonstrate necessary steps to correctly identify scopi
ng and technical requirements. This course will also discuss some of the d
ifferences between FFHA Design and Construction requirements and CBC Chapt
 er 11A.\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nThe participants will:\n\n1. Identify ap
plicable accessibility standards for new construction of privately owned/o
perated multifamily residential buildings in California\,\n\n2. Become com
fortable selecting a safe harbor to comply with the Federal Fair Housing A
mendments Act (FFHA)\,\n\n3. Understand the organization and contents of t
he standards\,\n\n4. Correctly perform research to identify both scoping a
nd technical requirements applicable to specific elements.\n\nMarx|Okubo A
ssociates\, Inc. - Accessibility Group\, Organizer of Accessibility Naviga
tor - Multifamily Residential\n\n\n\n\n\nWorking across all property types
\, Marx|Okubo's nationwide staff can provide detailed and thorough reviews
of your proposed or existing building's disabled accessibility compliance
.  We arm you with critical information to ensure that you minimize risk
while providing your building's users maximum access.\n\nMarx|Okubo serves
as an impartial reviewer of a project's accessibility compliance.  While
the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Federal Fair Housing Act (F
FHA) are more than 25 years old\, accessibility compliance remains a chall
enging prospect for many property owners and tenants.  Even in new constr
uction\, overlapping requirements can bewilder owners\, designers\, archit
ects\, and engineers.  Non-compliance items involve serious questions of
cost and risk analysis.  Property owners and building occupants are best
served by an accurate understanding of which accessibility codes\, standar
ds\, and regulations truly apply to their buildings and which portions of
a property must be modified to meet current requirements.  Marx|Okubo can
  provide owners\, developers\, contractors\, architects\, engineers\, and
other designers clarity about conformance with applicable standards.\n\n\n
