DESCRIPTION:IHCD Lunch &amp\; Learn: Learning Not to Walk + Access Portsmou
 th\nWednesday\, March 22nd 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm\nInstitute for Human Centere
 d Design\n200 Portland Street\, Boston MA\n\nAt this month's Lunch &amp\;
 Learn\, Todd Hanson will share his experiences when a rare neuromuscular d
 isease took him from being a Boston Marathoner to becoming clumsy\, to usi
 ng a walker and eventually a wheelchair. Along the way he discovered the r
 ealities of mobility impairments. For an architect who knew the ADA and ac
 cessibility codes well\, living it has been an eye-opening experience.\n\n
 Part One: Learning Not to Walk - Lessons learned from an architect who has
  experienced mobility transformations. As a child\, most of us instinctive
 ly learn to walk. When that ability is taken away in adulthood\, the proce
 ss isn't so simple.\n\nPart Two: Access Portsmouth - After experiencing co
 untless frustrations in an attempt to enjoy dining and culture in his home
 town of Portsmouth\, NH\, Todd hatched an idea to create a simple web-base
 d guide to this historic and vibrant seacoast destination. Anne Weidman\,
 a colleague\, stepped in to become the voice and mobility of Access Portsm
 outh\, working with Todd to inspect and review restaurants\, bars\, brewer
 ies and attractions for accessibility to all people. This model is being s
 tudied by other towns and regions for replication\, and is spreading the s
 pirit of inclusiveness and awareness across New England and beyond.\n\nChe
