nLocation: Online\n\nDescription: This course provides tools and example
s to help architects introduce accessibility and design for aging in place
into new and existing communities without compromising aesthetic characte
r and other design goals. The course provides resources for architects and
urban designers to help them create accessible neighborhoods\, blocks\, l
ots\, and homes. The course illustrates how the goals of universal design
are compatible with the goals of developing livable\, healthy\, and sustai
nable neighborhoods. Examples demonstrate how universal design is possible
in many different types of neighborhoods and housing forms\, including tr
aditional neighborhood and housing design.\n\nOur online courses are for e
 veryone: advocates\, builders and contractors\, planners\, architects\, oc
cupational and physical therapists\, and policymakers. Our expert staff wi

nd systems the foundation needed to recognize\, understand\, appreciate\,
apply\, and advocate for universal design in their homes\, offices\, and c
ommunities. The courses address the principles and knowledge bases relevan
t to solving many design problems using case studies to demonstrate the va
lue of universal design.\n\nAll courses supplement their textbook (sold se
parately) with online video lectures (provided with transcripts)\, additio
nal reading material\, exams\, projects\, and a discussion board that conn
ects students from around the world. Students will study independently whi
le the instructor acts as guide and facilitator\, assisting students with
their studies and projects\, and reviewing the progress of each student.\n
\nStudents should expect to complete about 15 hours of work over a 4-week
period. The course is asynchronous so there are no required sign in times.
