 on to the basics of accessible design and building codes and standards for
  housing. The course provides an overview of accessible housing policies\,
  such as the set-aside approach and adaptable housing\, as well as importa
 nt trends in housing policy such as visitability. Students explore the nee
 ds of aging individuals in the housing market and the importance of the ne
 ighborhood in the universal design of housing.\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nA
 t the conclusion of this course\, participants will be able to…\n\n\n	\n
 	Identify the limitations of the set-aside approach to accessibility in U.
 S. housing.\n	\n	\n	Describe and explain the differences between the chara
 cteristics of adaptable housing\, visitability\, and lifespan design.\n	\n
 	\n	Describe the process and importance of de-institutionalization of hous
 ing for people with disabilities and other groups using examples from comm
 unity-based rehabilitation and “normalization.”\n	\n	\n	Explain the im
 portance of neighborhood context in universal housing in relation to tradi
 tional neighborhood development.\n	\n\n\nSyllabus\n\nFor information on st

 nsible for completing 15 hours of work during a 4-week window (May 10 –
