  basics of accessible design\, a concept that preceded universal design. P
 ublic accommodations are a critical domain for universal design because th
 ey are the location of key social participation activities. This course di
 scusses the historical background of accessible design\, state-of-the-art 
 accessibility in public accommodations today\, and the need of universal d
 esign to supplement accessibility codes and standards. It describes univer
 sal design solutions for design process\, public rights-of-way\, site\, pa
 rking areas\, entries\, space planning\, ramps\, stairs\, restrooms\, and 
 business practices.\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nAt the conclusion of this co
 urse\, participants will be able to…\n\n\n	\n	Describe the basic goal of
  accessible design from a social theory perspective.\n	\n	\n	Explain what 
 led to the universal design philosophy citing accessibility policies and e
 xamples of universal design in accessibility codes.\n	\n	\n	Discuss the fu
 ture of universal design practice as it relates to credentialing and ident
 ification of best practices.\n	\n	\n	Identify ways in which universal desi
 gn can be incorporated in public accommodations using specific universal d
 esign strategies and examples.\n	\n\n\nSyllabus\n\nFor information on stud

 \nRegistration Information\n\n\n	\n	Dates/Times: Students will be respons
 ible for completing 15 hours of work during a 4-week window (March 8 – A
 pril 5\, 2019). There are no required sign in times\; however\, there are
