ground material to understand disability demographics and\, specifically\,
the aging of post-industrialized societies. A closer look at demography d
emonstrates how the field can support universal design practice\, and assi
st in the identification of emerging end user trends and important design
issues. Furthermore\, this course explores the emergence of universal desi
gn practices in a range of professions. Universal design is presented as a
n example of innovation. The process and mechanisms of innovation diffusio

ing the adoption of universal design are examined.\n\nLearning Objectives\
n\nAt the conclusion of this course\, participants will be able to…\n\n\
n	\n	Explain why a focus on only people with disabilities limits universal
design\, and give examples of other groups that benefit from universal de
sign.\n	\n	\n	Identify and critique myths associated with the aging popula
tion using demographic data.\n	\n	\n	Describe and discuss the stages of Ro
gers’s concept of innovation diffusion and its relationship to strategie
s for adoption of universal design.\n	\n	\n	Discuss how demographic data o
n universal design beneficiaries should influence the design of the built
environment.\n	\n\n\nSyllabus\n\nFor information on student responsibiliti
 es\, grading\, and credits\, see the course syllabus.\n\nRegistration Inf

Creating Inclusive Environments (Sold separately at: Wiley | Amazon)\n
