 d its concept. Students explore the social meaning of barriers in architec
 ture learn about universal design as a means to remove unnecessary barrier
 s to social participation. The course describes the birth of the concept o
 f universal design out of the disability rights movement\, utilizes case s
 tudies and examples to examine the development and power of universal desi
 gn\, and envisions the future of the universal design philosophy. The cour
 se builds upon the definition of universal design through the identificati
 on of seven basic Principles of Universal Design and eight Goals of Univer
 sal Design.\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nAt the conclusion of this course\, p
 articipants will be able to…\n\n\n	\n	Identify and describe barriers in 
 their everyday environments using concrete descriptors.\n	\n	\n	Explain th
 e concept and origins of universal design with case study examples.\n	\n	\
 n	Criticize\, compare\, and contrast modernism with universal design using
  the concepts of usefulness and human-centered design.\n	\n	\n	Discuss con
 temporary design issues that relate to universal design using examples to 
 explain the relationships.\n	\n\n\nSyllabus\n\nFor information on student

  for completing 15 hours of work during a 4-week window (January 11 – Fe
