 others with access and functional needs in the emergency management proces
 s needs shared understanding\, cultural competence\, effective communicati
 on\, inclusive practices\, and comprehensive emergency management principl
 es. Personal preparedness education combined with accessible and inclusive
  emergency management can enable individuals with disabilities and others 
 with access and functional needs to participate in a meaningful way with e
 mergency managers and planners.\n\nThe first part of this presentation wil
 l outline essential components to including community stakeholders in plan
 ning\, structuring planning strategies to be inclusive\, and applying whol
 e community principles to all phases of the emergency preparedness process
 . Activities of persons with disabilities in preparedness\, planning\, sta
 tewide exercises\, event evacuations and responses from Hawaii will be sha
 red.\n\nThe second part of this presentation will focus on increasing unde
 rstanding of how the individuals with intellectual and developmental\, the
 ir families\, and staff can better understand needs during a crisis\, and 
 how they can gain skills in mitigating the impact of an event.\n\nAfter pa
 rticipating in this webinar\, participants will be able to:\n\n\n	\n	Ident
 ify essential criteria to creating an inclusive planning team.\n	\n	\n	Rec
 ognize the potential roles and responsibilities of stakeholders with disab
 ilities and others with access and functional needs in the preparedness\, 
 response\, recovery and mitigation activities.\n	\n	\n	Understand what it 
 means to have “functional needs” during a crisis.\n	\n	\n	Identify bar
 riers that individuals with disabilities may have in preparing for\, or re
 sponding to a disaster\, that could complicate recovery.\n	\n	\n	Name five
  simple steps that people could take that may result in a quicker recovery
  after a disaster.\n	\n	\n	Describe the importance of personal preparednes
 s in the planning process.\n	\n	\n	Identify essential criteria to creating
