 on will cover: A majority of law enforcement activity involves communicati
 ng information\, so effective communication is a critical responsibility o
 f law enforcement personnel. When effective communication is denied to peo
 ple with disabilities\, there can be a significant negative impact on the 
 administration of justice. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regul
 ations require law enforcement personnel to provide individuals with commu
 nication disabilities an equal opportunity to communicate. Law enforcement
  officers must take steps to ensure effective communication\, including pr
 oviding appropriate accommodations and “auxiliary aids or services.”\n
 \nThis webinar will review:\n\n\n	Importance of effective communication fo
 r people with disabilities\, specifically those with hearing loss\, in law
  enforcement activities\, and consequences of inadequate access and oversi
 ght.\n	Overview of auxiliary aids and services to ensure effective communi
 cation.\n	Communication strategies and other types of accommodations\, suc
 h as environmental considerations.\n\n\nPresenter: Michael Richardson dire
 cts the Northwest ADA Center and is responsible for coordinating the activ
 ities of the Technical Assistance Unit. He provides technical assistance\,
  training\, continuing education\, and technical consultation services rel
 ated to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other federal and st
 ate disability laws. Having personal experience with hearing loss and invo
 lvement in the Deaf Community\, Michael also specializes in providing info
 rmation on accessibility and effective communication for people who are de
