  of the chief sponsors of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)\, Sena
 tor Edward M. Kennedy ensured that millions of Americans living with disab
 ilities would be protected against discrimination.  This exhibit examines
  the Senator's contributions to the passage of this legislation\, and incl
 udes two portraits from the VSA Permanent Art Collection of Senator Kenned
 y by well-known artists Andy Warhol and Jamie Wyeth.\nThe Exhibit is free 
 and open to the public during open hours of the Kennedy Center.\n\n24/40 C
 elebration\nTwo monumental milestones.  One awesome celebration.\n25 year
 s ago\, the Americans with Disabilities Act extended civil rights to milli
 ons of Americans. 40 years ago\, the Kennedy Center’s VSA opened its doo
 rs to provide arts and education opportunities for all people with disabil
 ities. These are indeed powerful reasons to celebrate. And so we shall!\nT
 his is the 25/40 Celebration. Join us in DC this July—the Kennedy Center
  and the Smithsonian are offering a one-of-a-kind\, cross-campus celebrati
 on. We are filling our stages\, theaters\, and public spaces with outstand
 ing\, free events to honor a culture of creativity\, expression\, and Amer
 ican heritage.\n\n\n\n\n
