ational Building Code ® (IBC®) accessible means of egress requirements.\
n\nThe way someone enters and moves into a building is not always the same
way they move to evacuate a building in an emergency. In addition to acce
ssible entry\, persons with disabilities must be considered when designing
plans and building systems used for emergency evacuation. The accessible
means of egress provisions are required for all new construction. This pro
gram will introduce you to the concepts\, details\, options and applicatio
n of accessible exiting provisions. Discussions will include operational s
 afety plans\, fire drills\, and notification/communication for occupants i
n a building during the emergency and physical building requirements.  Ex
amples of typical building layouts will be included to facilitate understa
nding.  Also provided will be a brief overview of the new technologies fo
r fire service access elevators and occupant evacuation elevators\, which
can be an important part of the accessible means of egress.\n\nThe accessi
ble means of egress provisions from the International Building Code (IBC)
are referenced in the 2010 ADA Standard for Accessible Design (also called
the new ADAAG). This program will assist in understanding how the codes a
nd federal regulations are now working to harmonize the national response
to designing a building not only for ingress\, but for egress as well.\n\n
Upon completion of this course\, participants will be able to:\n\n\n	\n	De
scribe what are the unique concerns for persons with disabilities that nee
d to be addressed in a fire and safety evacuation plan\n	\n	\n	Identify ho
w many accessible means of egress are required from a space and a building
.\n	\n	\n	Explain which evacuation signage must be visual or tactile.\n	\n
\n	Explain the requirements for an accessible means of egress.\n	\n	\n	Ha
ve a basic understanding of the intent of a fire service access elevator o
 r occupant evacuation elevator system.\n	\n\n
